How do I measure my window?
1. Choose Installation Placement: Determine installation placement for window guard. Our guard ends posts are ¾” square. They can be installed inside the window frame or on the face of the window molding or wall.
2. Measure Your Window Length: Now measure your window length from end to end where the posts will be installed. This will indicate what guard length you need. **This will be the width for horizontal installs or the height for vertical installs.
3. Measure the Maximum Opening (Danger Zone): Measure the widest or tallest opening of your window. This helps ensure the guard provides adequate protection.
What size do I need?
After measuring your window, refer to our window guard Model Number Sizing Chart to determine the model(s) you will need.

What do I need to install the guards?
- You need a screwdriver or a drill to install our guards.
- A ruler and pencil may be helpful to measure and mark end post placement.
Can the guards be installed indoors or outdoors?
Our standard guards are designed for inside installation only. Installing them outside or in-between the window glass and screen may expose the guards to weather and damage the integrity of the guard. For outdoor installations, we recommend our stainless-steel guards, which are specifically designed to withstand outdoor conditions.
Can I install the guard in-between the window and the screen?
We do not recommend or warrant guards that have been installed in-between the window glass and the screen. The guard may be exposed to weather and damage the integrity of the guard.
Can the guards be installed inside the window frame or on the wall/window molding?
Our guard posts are ¾” square with screw holes on two sides, allowing for flexible installation inside the window frame or on the face of the window molding or wall.
- Ensure the window guard is installed in a solid frame material or stud for proper operation.
- If your window molding is less than ¾” thick and not flush with the wall or window, additional molding may be required for correct installation of the guard. Check local building codes for secure installation guidelines.
- If you encounter difficulty with installation or lack confidence in doing it yourself, we recommend hiring a handyman. Alternatively, consider consulting your landlord or property manager for assistance with installing the guards.
I have a double hung window; can I just do two guards to cover each windowpane?
It is our recommendation to stack the guards, end post to end post, to cover the entire window area. This ensures installation is compliant with ASTM F-2090-13 Standard for Window Fall Prevention Devices with Emergency Escape Release Mechanism.
If you do not wish to install multiple guards, use window stops to prevent second window panes from being opened beyond the guarded area.
Should I install the guards horizontally or vertically?
- Horizontal installation is great for Single and Double Hung windows.
- Vertical installation is great for Sliding and Casement windows.
- You can install either way you prefer, or that fits your window securely. It is important to cover the entire operable window area to protect against window related accidents.
